How to Apply?
Generally, you must:
- Request that your designated school official (DSO) at your academic institution recommend the OPT.
- Your DSO will make the guidance by endorsing your Form I‑20, Certification of Eligibility for Non immigrant Student Status, and making the appropriate notation in the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS).
- Properly file Form I-765, Application for Employment Authorization with USCIS, accompanied by the required fee and the supporting documentation as described in the form instructions.
USCIS OPT Processing Time
- From point of approval, USCIS says it can take 30 days beyond to receive your EAD card
- Most cards arrive within 7-10 days after approval.
- In total, it is likely for your OPT application to take 90-120 days.
